Digital teaching and collaboration: For employees, doctoral candidates and students

When physical meetings and courses cannot take place, digital teaching and collaboration tools can be a useful alternative. The URZ offers various digital collaboration services for students, employees, and doctoral candidates.

The following table provides an overview of software tools provided by the URZ that can be used to, e.g., collaborate with colleagues who work from home or to interact with students.

heiBOX - new for students!

The university's cloud storage service heiBOX allows users to share and collaboratively edit files. The service has recently been opened to students as well.

heiCHAT - Instant Messaging - new!

The university's new instant messaging service can be used for chat or (video) calls. It is safe, simple to use and compliant with current data protection regulations.

heiCONF - new! heiCONF is a web conferencing system for audio and video conferences. The service is hosted and operated at the Heidelberg University, which means that all data is stored in the server rooms of the university. Employees,

Moodle - e-learning platform - new!

Moodle allows users to create virtual classrooms for (supplemental) teaching. Self-assessments, discussion boards, wikis or glossaries, among other tools, can also be used.

Microsoft Teams - new! Microsoft Teams is a platform that combines chat, video and voice conferencing, file sharing, notebooks and whiteboard functionality. Employees
SharePoint SharePoint is a powerful platform which can simplify, standardize, and accelerate internal collaboration and communication processes. Employees
Video conferencing (DFNconf)

The DFNconf service provided by the DFN e.V. can be used (by employees) for videoconferencing and for streaming courses and events. Please note: The service is currently experiencing heavier traffic and may be of lower quality than usual.

VPN

VPN allows remote access to services that are only available from within the university network. A VPN connection will also provide higher security for a remote work environment.

Webex - new!

Via Webex, employees can setup video conferences, online meetings or webinars, among other things.

URZ technicians are currently working hard to expand the existing services for digital collaboration in order to respond to the current requirements. As soon as new information and services are available, they will be listed here.
