Service announcement - 27. June 2024 Email: migration from Microsoft Exchange Server 2016 to 2019

From the beginning of July, the MS Exchange Server version 2016 will be migrated to version 2019. The update of the email servers is expected to take around two months and should be completed by the end of August. During this period, there may be minor outages or disruptions to the email service in exceptional cases, though these are not expected.

Please note the following:

  • Once the preparation phase is completed and the actual migration starts, Outlook 2013 will no longer be supported - we strongly recommend upgrading to at least Outlook 2016.
  • Outdated Versions of Outlook 2016 and 2019 will also no longer be supported. Hence, we recommend installing all available updates.
  • At no point will we contact you as a user and ask you to visit a website, click on links and/or log on there with your login details. If you or your colleagues receive such emails, please be particularly careful and assume that they are phishing messages.
  • During the migration of mailboxes to the new databases, messages may appear asking users to restart Outlook. We will try to carry out these migrations outside of business hours to avoid these disruptions.

If you are using an old version of Outlook, please contact the IT representative of your institute or the IT service.
