Since that first of September, the prospective IT specialists have been able to experience for themselves how to get their career in IT started successfully in an international team working with numerous different technologies. From IT administration to IT service support and IT security, they will now be familiarizing themselves with all service areas and groups on site during the practical phase of their training. A variety of enriching experiences await them, such as their first visit to the university server rooms - one of their future places of work.

“I made the conscious decision to apply to URZ. I previously had contact with the Computing Centre because I studied at the university and had a great time there as a student. That's why I'm looking forward to starting my training in Heidelberg – I'm very interested in IT, and I find the whole idea of working in a university environment very meaningful. Now I can contribute to the success of employees and students in their research, work and studies.”

Starting your career or changing direction: IT specialist as an ideal career

For Noemi Gabrielly Rodrigues dos Santos, Lukas Philipp Dambuk and Dominik Zils, working in IT is a dream job, and they have now found it at the URZ. The prospective IT specialists are looking to deepen their existing IT knowledge and gain extensive new knowledge over the next three years.

“In my home country of Brazil, I had already begun training as an IT specialist in both system integration and application development and acquired programming skills in Java. IT is my greatest passion, and I will be the first IT specialist in my family. I have also been able to pass on my enthusiasm to my sister. I have always wanted to experience living in a different country with different cultures and languages. I always wanted to gain experience in another country with different cultures and languages. This is a great place for me to grow and hit the ground running.”

While studying computer science at Ruperto Carola, I learned that the URZ, as the central IT service provider for the entire university, also offers training opportunities. That immediately caught my interest, because it covers so many areas, and I was looking to work not just on a theoretical level but also in a more practical way. During my training to become an IT specialist, I am able to gain a lot of new insights into practical work and even assemble computers from scratch, just like when I was a kid – for me, this is exactly what makes this program so much better than a degree in computer science.”
