Project bwOER-CONNECT

Automation of the transfer of open teaching and learning materials between learning management systems (ILIAS, Moodle) and edu-sharing-based OER repositories

bwOER-CONNECT aims to facilitate the direct exchange of Open Educational Resources (OER) between learning platforms such as ILIAS and Moodle, and OER repositories such as ZOERR (Central Open Educational Resources Repository of the Universities in Baden-Württemberg).

The project is a joint project led by the University of Tübingen and is the result of the dialogue process ‘Zukunftslabor Hochschulen in der digitalen Welt’ (Future Lab for Universities in the Digital World) initiated by the Ministry of Science, Research and Art (MWK) of Baden-Württemberg, in which a large number of representatives from a wide range of higher education institutions participated.

This project aims to enable learning management systems commonly used at universities, such as Moodle and ILIAS, to directly offer teaching materials online as well as transfer them to central publication platforms, thereby simplifying the exchange of open educational resources. Until now, it was not possible to export content from learning platforms directly into repositories. This obstacle needs to be eliminated so that authors can easily and directly publish their open educational resources within Moodle and ILIAS through integrated functions (such as an "OER button").

The simplified process for OER publications should contribute to making publishing a routine part of academic teaching. The simplified process for OER publications is intended to help establish publishing as a routine part of academic teaching. This will increase the number of high-quality, up-to-date digital teaching and learning materials, so that both university members and the general public can make effective use of scientific resources.

Status and Duration

The current period of this project is from 1 July 2024 to 31 December 2025.

Project Partners

bwOER-CONNECT is a successor to and extension of the ILIAS.NRW project, which conducted extensive preliminary work.

The following institutions are part of this project:

  • University of Tübingen
  • Heidelberg University (Moodle section)
  • University of Freiburg (ILIAS section)

Funding

The bwOER-CONNECT project is funded by the Ministry for Sciences, Research and Arts of Baden-Württemberg (MWK).
