Project bwGitLab
Service for the management, versioning and publication of research data for universities in Baden-Württemberg under the IT alliance
A state service for universities in Baden-Württemberg is being created based on the GitLab software. GitLab offers numerous opportunities for collaborative work and has extensive functionalities for software development and automation. The service enables or simplifies cross-location development projects between universities and with external partners, offers new possibilities in the field of research data management and can be effectively implemented in teaching. It also provides an alternative to cloud services such as GitHub while making it easier for research and teaching data to remain in Baden-Württemberg.
The platform architecture is designed for scalability, security and high accessibility. This allows entities from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the University of Heidelberg (UHEI) to be linked (geo-replication). The service is connected to the federated identity management bwIDM. Training and documentation materials are shared with other collaboration partners, as well as updated and created as needed. Strategies for user support and long-term operation are currently under development.
Status and Duration
