Service bwUniCluster
Introductory and basic supply system for high performance computing for research and teaching
The bwUniCluster serves as the introductory, basic supply system for high-performance computing for research and teaching at universities in the state of Baden-Württemberg. It is financed by the state universities and the MWK and can be used by participating institutions based on their share of the funding.
The bwUniCluster is part of the Baden-Württemberg state concept for high-performance computing bwHPC and is operated by the Steinbuch Centre for Computing (SCC) of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
In addition to the bwUniCluster, the bwForClusters are available for specific scientific disciplines at several locations in the state - Heidelberg University, for example, hosts the bwForCluster Helix for the research fields Structural and Systems Biology, Medical Science, Soft Matter, and Computational Humanities.

Technical information
In March 2020, the “bwUniCluster 2.0+GFB-HPC” became operational. This is the modernized successor system of the “bwUniCluster” consisting of more than 840 SMP nodes with 64-bit Xeon Intel processors. Further technical details and information can be found on the website of the Steinbuch Centre for Computing at KIT, which is operating the Cluster.
