How-To Set up a central multifunction printer on MacOS

The following describes how to set up and use a centrally located multifunction printer on MacOS.

Printer Setup

Prior to setting up the printer, you need to install the corresponding print driver.

1. Open Ricoh's printer driver page.

2. Choose the corresponding driver for the printer model and your macOS version and select 'Download'.

3. Select 'Open with DiskImageMounter (default)' and click 'OK'.

4. Double-click the installer file (.pkg) to start the installation.

5. Click 'Continue'.

6. Click 'Continue'.

7. Click 'Agree'.

Select 'Agree' if You accept the license terms

8. Click on 'Install'.

Click on 'Install'

9. Use you local admin account for macOS, type your password and click on 'Install Software'.

10. Installation successful, click on 'Close'.

Close the Installation Manager

11. Click 'Move to Bin' to delete the installation file for the driver software.

Click on 'Move to Bin'

12. Select 'Apple', then 'System Preferences'.

Go to 'Apple', then 'System Preferences'

13. Select 'Printers & Scanners'.

Select 'Printers and Scanners'

14. Click the '+' symbol to add a printer.

Click on the '+' symbol to add a device

15. In general,the menu option 'Advanced' next to 'Default/IP/Windows' is missing here. If so, press the Alt button on your keyboard and click on the menu bar, then click 'Customise toolbar'(You will not see this option unless You press the Alt button).

Click on 'Customise Toolbar'

16. Drag & drop the 'Advanced' button to the menu bar. Click 'Done'.

When the 'Advanced settings' button shows up click on 'Done'

17. Click 'Advanced' and configure the settings as follows:

  • Type: Windows printer via spools
  • Device: Another device
  • URL: smb://129.106.14.72/SecurePrint
  • Name: SecurePrint

Under 'Use': click 'Select Software' to choose a driver.

18. Search for the driver you have installed and select it.

Select the printer and click on 'Ok'

19. Check if everything is configured correctly and click 'Add'.

You should now be able to select and use the printer through your software's print dialog boxes as usual.

Click on 'Add'

PRINT JOBS

All print jobs sent through the SecurePrint printer are sent to the central print server at the URZ and can then be printed at any multifunction device on campus that you can access.

To do this, you must log in to the chosen device with your Uni ID (or project number). Alternatively, you can use a University-issued card (e.g. your CampusCard or Service Card) to log in. The card must first be set up using the administration printers.

After logging in, select 'Secure Print' from the menu to view and print your jobs sent to the print server.
